Artist Statement
“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” -William Shakespeare, 1592
The world is a complex and vibrant place, with an overwhelming spectrum of colors and emotions. My work captures this sensation, drawing inspirations from personal experiences and interactions. Using an array of materials including paint, clay, fibers, and colored pencils, these sentiments take on forms that are spikey, fluid, or undefined. Scale varies depending on the intensity of the subject matter, and unpredictability remains a key element in my practice, keeping viewers engaged and surprised.
I move between mediums freely, enjoying the process of experimenting and blending different materials. For example, in my ceramic pieces, I sew embroidery thread into the clay forms, altering their functionality and transforming their purpose. My paintings are crisp and precise, with each stroke deliberate and free of imperfections.
Interpretation is left open-ended, allowing viewers to construct their own meanings from my work. Even when their conclusions differ from my original intent, the conversation sparked is what matters most. Curiosity and inquiry are encouraged—engagement, whether intellectual or emotional, is integral to the experience. My work invites interaction, inviting viewers to step closer, question, and feel.
